Session Preparation Recommendations

Preparing for a tattoo session is extremely important! A tattoo is trauma to the skin and body; if not properly prepared, the body will not respond well.

  • Eat a good meal before your appointment! It is EXTREMELY important to eat beforehand due to the fact that tattoos are trauma to the skin and body. If the body is not properly prepared to handle such trauma the result can be dizziness, fainting, vomiting, or even seizure. While all professional tattoo artists are trained to handle such incidents, let's try to avoid them in the first place eh?

  • Get lots of rest the night before your appointment and avoid drinking any alcohol! Alcohol thins the blood and causes dehydration. Lack of restful sleep and alcohol consumption can cause the above symptoms as well as affect your ability to recognize the ways that your body may be reacting to the tattoo procedure.

  • Stay hydrated; both your skin and your body! While it is important to stay hydrated regularly, it is especially important to make sure to drink lots of water not only the day of your appointment but in the days leading up to your appointment as well. Drinking plenty of water will not only improve your skin's hydration but it will help to prepare your body for the trauma to come. A good skin care routine is also recommended. However, it is not recommended to apply lotions the day of your appointment as some lotions could interfere with the tattooing process.

  • Bring snacks and wear appropriate, comfortable clothing! Bringing snacks can not only make the tattoo appointment more comfortable and enjoyable but they serve the purpose of alleviating symptoms of dizziness and shock in the body. Comfortable and appropriate clothing is important due to the fact that you will be sitting in much the same position for multiple hours depending on your tattoo as well as ensuring that your artist can easily access the area you wish to get tattooed!
