Piercing Aftercare Recommendations

Piercing Aftercare Recommendations

Proper care and cleaning of your new piercing is extremely important! Improper care could result in an infection or rejection of your new piercing.

  • Cleaning/care instructions may vary slightly depending on the piercing location, so please read this form thoroughly. WASH YOUR HANDS! Anytime you are handling your piercing, make sure your hands are clean to avoid infection.
  • Clean your new piercing front and back (twice) daily; once in the morning and once at night. Saturate a Q-Tip (on both sides of the swab) with the recommended piercing solution. Gently and thoroughly swab where the jewelry meets the skin. Gently remove any crusties, dried blood, build up, or hair that is around the healing area. Sometimes a warm compress is necessary to get rid of stubborn discharge/crusties. DO NOT PICK!
  • For inner oral piercings (such as tongue): Avoid using products with alcohol content (such as most Listerine products). With a solution of distilled water and salt, a salt water based mouthwash, or an alcohol free mouthwash, rinse the inside of your mouth twice daily (morning and night). Additionally, rinse anytime you eat, smoke, or vape (MAX 5x per day to avoid irritation and swelling).
  • For outer oral piercings (such as lips): Follow all prior oral instructions and clean outside with a Q-tip of saline solution.
  • For all oral piercings: Avoid certain foods for the first couple weeks of healing as much as possible. Things to avoid include beer/yeast or dairy as well as spicy or acidic foods. DO NOT rattle the jewelry across your teeth!
  • Keep your beads tight! Avoid touching your piercing! Do not touch, fiddle, twist or turn the jewelry. Keep it dry! Avoid soaking/submerging your piercing for 4-6 weeks. Leave it alone! Never double dip a Q-tip in the cleaning solution; this could result in contamination.
  • Additional cleaning may be necessary if the piercing comes into contact with products such as: shampoo, cologne/perfume, hair products, cosmetics, or after a workout. Any of these could cause irritation and/or swelling to the piercing. Rinse your piercing before exiting the shower, and avoid swimming or soaking your piercing for a minimum of 2 weeks but 4-6 weeks is recommended. Avoid going to bed with wet hair for any ear piercings, those tangles are not fun.. Be careful with wash clothes, rags, clothing, seat belts, etc. as any could snag, and that hurts..
  • Quality jewelry should be worn at all times! Titanium, 14kt Gold, or surgical steel are strongly recommended. Options like acrylic or poly-carbonate may be warn temporarily but should be replaced often.
